While filling out the paperwork at the shop for my newest toy, I spied about 1/4inch of a sprue plate sticking out of a plastic shopping bag, from across the room no less. (I guess thats a sign of a casting problem). Anyways, I went to investigate, and found a nice Lyman 452488 mold. The owner of the shop said it was given to him, and had no plans of using it. He said whatever I thought was fair was OK with him. 15$ later, I have a new mold. This is a different design than my other .45 molds, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with it? Thanks.

Back when I had a Gold Cup , I used one of those and got good accuracy and velocity using AL-5 if I remember right . I think H&G has a mold similar to that as well . I never had a problem with jams either .

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to try it against the 452460 to see how it does. The nose does look alot like a mold H&G offered.

in my opinion its the best 45 acp bullet out there. If a acp wont shoot that bullet it plain wont shoot.

The 452488 shoots great in my Puma 92. Thought I might have trouble with it not having a crimp groove but so far the bullets have stayed put in the tubular magazine. I'm moving them out at about 1250 fps and haven't had any leading. So far it's the easiest bullet to get to shoot well that I've tried. Works well in the 45 Colt Blackhawk too.

This mold is for all practical purposes identical to H&G mold #130. It is a semiwad cutter that is most often used in the 45ACP or 45 Auto-rim usually for target work and it has an excellent reputation for accuracy. It usually also needs a slight taper crimp applied to it. At $15.- it was a steal/great bargain. It was listed in the NRA handloading book under champions' preferred loads with 3.5 grains of Bullseye. It feeds reliably in 45 autos and punches neat clean holes in targets. It also casts easily because of the design. I have used the H&G 130 in my Gold cup and S&W 1955 for many years now. It should do very well for you. Good luck with it. LLS
