their is a shooter on you tube who uses a bullet patched with paper and patches over that with aluminum foil. he was shooting at a target 1000 yards away. i tried regular aluminum foil but didnt like it. it was accurate but left the bore dirty. then a fellow suggested teflon coated aluminum foil and that changed every thing. it was as clean as paper and very accurate. i dont know his reason for puting aluminum foil over paper but he was getting results. possible his gun had deeper grooves? i have one gun that prefers a teflon coated aluminum bullet over paper and that guns bore is 5 thousands deep as all the rest are 4 thousands.

i apologise your right. it probably should have been put on patching blackpowder also but it is interesting. punch in 1,000 yards black powder muzzle-load rifle 1859 .451 caliber you tube, and it should get you their. i dont know how to get you directly their.

abob: i think the reason for aluminum on top of paper is that gun may have deeper than 4 thousands groves. however that is only a guess.

One could join Youtube and ask, but I'd say it's to help reinforce the boolit to keep it from stripping out from the muzzle velocity.
