Wiljen has finished up the software for the tracking.
http://www.groupbuys.dnsalias.com/login.asp

KCSO generously donated it for the site's benefit, thank to both of them for making this possible. :drinks:

This is a site benefit item, a donation of $5.00 is encouraged to help pay for the site and each user is responsible for shipping costs to the next in line also.

Here is a post that best describes what it is and how to approach it.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showpost.php?p=100168&postcount=13

Sign up or log in and add your requests to the list and we will get the ball rolling.
I will ship the mold first to springfield, from that point it will go to the next in line with shipping to be paid by whoever has the mold paying to the next in line.

I would hope we can get the mold shipped promptly to the next in line with minimal hold time at each location, say 1-2 weeks.

I would like people to log in to this thread upon receipt of the mold.

Springfield,,pm me and lets git-r-dun! :drinks:

Seems like it hasn't moved much lately. Whatever happened to the smaller mould that was donated, don't see any way to get on a list for that.

PM your address and I will send the 2#'er out to get it rolling,,meanwhile the software to track the smaller is still in the works. I will post a few pics .

I received the mold from Texasflyboy with an attached little clamp,, that failed miserably, I removed it and went to locking pliers. That made the mold friendlier and I cast several decent hammers easily.

I will be sending the mold out tuesday and am forwarding a pm along to you to forward to the next fellow waiting. Ok?

Got the pm and will be waiting impatiently for the mould! So what size bolt was that in the pics?

45nut
09-22-2007, 11:00 AM
1/2"-10" ,, I did need to put a wrap of an old sanding belt around the bolt shank inside the mold a bit to seal it well. Other than that it delivers a good hammer and the weight is about right. Use a big locking plier or a large C clamp to hold the mold tightly closed. Someday when the other mold gets back to me I will cast a couple hammers from it also.

Little  hammer list?
If this is the list for the littler of the two hammer moulds, please append my monicker to the list.
I'm signed up for the bigger one but looks like it is moving very slowly.
Thanks.

I sent the "lil" mold out to Springfield last week, I "think" he had a CB member to forward to when he was done, then you are welcome to it. I "think" Medic44 was also shipping the bigger one forward also.

I'd also like to have the little one. I have signed up for the larger one on GB page. The little one looks good for the smaller gun jobs that require a bit more finesse. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to be on the list. I had a hammer mould years ago and lent it out.......just cant remember who too :-(

I cast up 10 hammer heads and mailed it on to the next person. I don't know how he is gonna know who to send it to next, though. Also, if you are going to mail it in a Flat Rate envelope(4.00) it really should be wrapped up in some sort of padding. When I got it it was hanging out of the side of the torn envelope. I put it in a box. Cost more to ship(7.00) but at least I know the next guy won't get an empty package. Made some nice 2 lb hammers, though.

Mark I received the hammer mould today. You did an excellent job in the packing and shipping department. Lets see how long we can keep on using this box and bubble wrap. I will use rubber bands to keep the bubble wrap together and put a plain brown bag on the outside for shipping. Any guesses as to how long before the postal system destroys your art work? Thanks again Mark for the quick turn around. :drinks::drinks: BWB :castmine:

I've been watching the list on the Group Buy site. There is a list under the Hammer Mold tab. It sounds like there is more than one list.

Have the hammer mould.
Hope to generate hammer heads tomorrow.
Obtained pipe handles or at least stubs this weekend.
Will photograph my approach for future users.
I am making mine such that a handle has to be added for use.
Or in other words one handle works for successive hammers.

OK so what are you using lead hammer for? And my the special mould? I could make a square mould from steel in about 10minutes in my garage /w or w/o handle, any size. So I'm sure a decent amount of you could also.

So what gives?

OK, what gives here? I've been waiting since June for the hammer mold and see that members here that signed up in Sept-Oct have had the mold. OR... are there 2 different lists? If so, I don't see the second list. Any explanation? Emery

I have been told it has been shipped. I am wondering just as you are.

kywoodwrkr
12-09-2007, 08:32 PM
Due to more than I wish to discuss in open forum, I had a delay in shipping to Trez.
Sorry for this delay.
One last thing I might pass on is that I found a 5" long nipple of 3/8" gas pipe when cut in half and non threaded end squashed in a very large vise fits this mould exceptionally well with only the threaded end sticking out of the mould.
The smashed end will act as an anchor in the mass of the head.
The threaded end of the nipple sticking out of the head then lends itself to being used with a couple three other pieces of 3/8" pipe components to make a handle.
IE: merchant coupling to another 6" or longer nipple then fitted on end with a cap.
Rubber hose of correct length could be placed over 6"(or loger) nipple before cap is screwed on as an insulator.
Again sorry for the delay.

I have received the small 2# hammer mold and need to know who will be getting it next and their address. Also where do I send my donation?

The area of the mold that the handle comes through broke off again (it appears to have been welded once). Since I am the one that it chose to give up on, I will be looking for another mold of this size for the site to replace this one. It works fine as is but I would feel better getting a new one for the group. If anyone has a lead on a 2# hammer mold, please let me know.

Thanks to the group and the site for making this available. I have already used mine to work on a few guns that needed the "firm but with love" approach.

Idaho,
I made up 4 for you. I'll try to get them off to you when I send the mold out. By the way thanks for the kind words. Being in the American Custom Gunmaker's Guild does put me in the midst of some great gunmakers. I hope to attain the level of perfection my father and some of the other leaders in this field have. I consider it a great honor to be included anywhere on this list. Thank you! You made my day!!!

I don't know who is keeping the list for the smaller hammer mold but I would like to have my name added. I am on the list for the larger hammer mold. That list hasn't changed in several months. That list shows that Medic44 has the mold. I suspect it may be somewhere else by now. If it comes to making a choice, I think I would rather have the smaller hammer.

obssd1958

The way I read this thread, the small hammer mold list would read something like this:
45Nut ---shipped
Springfield ---shipped
Bad Water Bill ---shipped
kywoodwrkr ---shipped
Trez Hensley ---shipped
Sundogg1911
alamogunr?
obssd1958
R.M.?
pumpguy?
woodman51jfk?
allie
mazo kid?
charlie / sw mo?

Those names with a question mark didn't specifically ask to be on this list, but definitely showed interest, in the order shown (on this thread anyway).
I would be willing to take over tracking this mold and list if it would help.
Maybe contact each person on this list, see if they are still interested, get the mailing addresses of those who are, coordinate with whomever has the hammer mold and give them the address of the next person to ship to, etc...
Not sure who makes these decisions --- 45nut, what say you??

45nut has already started a sticky in "Benefit Auctions/Sales" called "SMALL Hammer Mold Tracking Thread"
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=23149

We should probably move this list over there.

Take care,

I'm interested but don't mind waiting as long as there is progress. This said, I'm not sure that I rate being next on the list. If Sundogg1911 ships me the mold, I will commit to shipping it to the next one on the list within a week after receiving it. I will also post as soon as I receive it so the clock can start running.
