I've been sizing and sorting some .223/5.56 brass this morning. I found a 2011 LC brass with a primer crimp I'd never seen before. Heretofore, the primer crimps have all been circular and complete. This crimp appears to be four individual crimps. Looks like they changed their crimp tooling.

Oh Jim that has the cross in a circle symbol that means it is special sniper ammo and I believe the four crimp is used for the Ultra Magnum Zombie Killer primers. A rare find indeed. There was a thread about the cross in a circle head stamps awhile back.

That mark, cross in a circle, means NATO spec ammo IIRC

Don't think I have seen that primer crimp befoe

Greek HXP M2 30-06 ammo uses a similar crimp but with only 3 crimps instead of 4. They swage out nicely for me with an RCBS primer pocket swage.

Found quite a bit of brass with that style crimp last trip to the range.

I bet i went thru 500 like that on my last 2k of brass I processed. Ran it thru my Dillon and kept on going. Seemed to load primers ok.

I've noticed that type of crimp only on the LC 11 so far, I've got brass of almost every year to current date and those are the only ones I've seen with that style crimp.

iv'e been dealing with a bunch like that lately too.
i believe the 11 and the 12 both have it.
it swages out pretty easily, i have had to touch a few up with the crimp cutter after swaging though.
the ones like that are pretty easy to spot as the little edges seem to fill with gunk and turn black right off.

I have found that style crimp on the 11 and the 12, but not on any of the 10 that I have. They must have started that in 11. I have only had to touch it lightly with a reamer and it smooths out nicely. Haven't tried to swage any as I find reaming to be faster, but I'm sure that it would swage easily as it doesnt seem to displace much metal. At least not as much as the old circle crimp. IMO

Shhhh we can't talk about the top secret thread any more.
I will have to ask my double top secret deep connection at the CIA but I though they were doing it this way to designate a double circle cross, meaning it is twice as accurate.

Staked primers - who'd a thought. Just less expensive tooling. Any moisture seal on them?

i don't see any colored laquer on them.
they seem a little easier to punch out than the old circle crimp.
