Anyone have much experience with the 22 Jet in the Smith Model 53 with the 8 3/8" barrel ?
Have only tried 7.5 gn. 4227 with the Lyman 225438 and was surprised to see it actually outshot the factory equivalent 40 gn. load with the Hornaday jacketed bullet but would like to find something with a bit more zip to it if possible. Looks like this could be a good number to take up after rock chucks but they can be a tough little critter to drop.
The above load came from a older Lyman manual and the later manuals I have do not even show it.
Something more up to date would be appreciated.

I have a 22 Super Jet rifle so my experience will be of limited use to your situation. I'd suggest you try AA #5 or AA #7. Other powders in the same approximate burn rate catagory should get you a good load.

I would be comfortable putting 9 to 9.7 grains of 2400 behind that pill in .22 jet.
(I have a model 53 and a TC Encore barrel in .22 jet). Sierra 4th edition has 10.5 grains 2400 or 13 grains 4227 max behind a 45 grain jacketed hornet, cartridge OAL 1.655. That 225438 can be pushed as fast as the jet will go–when I cast them they weigh in at just under 47 grains with gas check. PM me if you want to see the data for yourself. 4227 charges start at 12.1 grains for a 45 grainer.
