I'm experimenting with this light boolit for bowling pin matches. I'm looking for less recoil for follow up shots. Does anyone have an OAL in 45 acp. I have some set to 1.180" and hand fed them OK. Does anyone have any experience with this and some loads? These are a little difficult to seat straight too.

i can tell you 5 grs of titegroup and 6 grs of unique isn't quite enough to operate the slide.
they are a good place to start working up from though.

You can make it work, but why? The lighter, low SD bullet isn't going to smack the pins very hard. A 230gr bullet @ 700fps is soft shooting, runs the most guns w/o mods & still hits a pin hard enough to remove it form the table. It's all about momentum & the 165gr just doesn't have enough. Even a 200gr @ 700fps, softer shooting still, has sim momentum as a 165gr @ even 900fps, about what you will need for reliable functioning.

Fastest shooter is using a 9mm with a 90 grain bullet. I'm trying to do the same with what I have, light boolit in .45. Like I said, it's an experiment.

Good luck on the pin shoots,
A question about the folks shooting the 9MM in the pin shoots,
How many rounds to clean the table ? If you want less perceived recoil and faster follow up shots with the 1911 look into a square bottom firing pin stop (FPS)
It may be just what you need and not hard to do with an after market part.
A little slide delay goes a long way. Check it out.

I've not shot pins in long time, I used a soft shooting 220 gr boolit with Herco under it. Had a great time until they stopped doing it :-? we had a shotgun class also which I was faster at it always drove me nuts. Enjoy it as it is a hoot shooting pins. Be careful with bounce back, we stood behind a shield if we weren't timing or shooting. I received a few bruises on my chins from pieces of boolits.
