Scored valve seat while "attempting" to clean it. Lead pours out as it melts. Very old pot, decent amount of corrosion. Should I order a replacement inside, or just scrap the whole thing? Thanks.

You can fix it for less than $12 delivered for the inner pot (which has the valve seat built in):

Fix it for $12 sounds pretty attractive to me...

You should get the valve rod also if your going to replace the inner pot with the seat. $8 for the inner pot, $3 for the valve rod + shipping would be about $15.

If you were happy with the pot before the issue then a replacement would seem in order.

They are easy to repair and economical. You can wipe the corrosion away or scrape it off. The valve seat and stem should both be replaced together as the poster above said.

I got a second inner pot and stem for clean lead so I didn't have to try to clean the heck out of it after wheel weight melting. The economical way for sure. The inner pot was hard to remove/wrestle with but has since become much easier to swap. It may take some attitude adjustment but it will come out without too much issue.

Or you can plug the spout and use it for dipper casting.

I kept my 10lb'er around after I upgraded to a 20 lb'er.
When I start to pour the 45-70 boolit's it can empty a pot pretty quick so what I do now is premelt the lead in the 10lb'er and pick it up and pour the molten lead into the 20lb'er.
Hardly slow's me down at all.

I use an old pot as a mold heater, works well.

I would repair the ten and buy a new 4-20. Then stack the ten pounder above and behind the twenty pounder so you can empty the ten into the twenty. In that way your melt doesn't cool off when adding to it.
