I'm looking for a good shooting, reliable feeding boolit for my M1 Carbine. Would any of the group buys be good for it? Also, would you suggest a PB or GC ? Thanks for any suggestions and tips!-

Elvis,

I've had good experience with the Plain Base 130 grain Lyman 311410. Its designed for the M1 30 Carbine. IIRC, a standard primer and minimum load of IMR-4227 seemed to cycle the action and give reasonable accuracy at modest velocities. Your results may vary.

Regardless of your choice of boolit mold, the COAL for your cartridge will be the smallest magazine well. It's a really an annoying prospect to discover, that some aftermarket magazines are smaller than the Mil-surplus ones.

I hope this helps,

If you want to duplicate factory and milsurp velocity and accuracy (actualy better accuracy than milsurp) then a GC'd cast bullet is best. Either the Lee or RCBS RN GC'd designs are excellent as is the Lyman 311359.

For bullet design you want/need a round nose or something close to a pointy nose to ensure good feeding. A gas check design is also preferable if you are going to duplicate GI ball velocity. I use the RCBS round nose GC with 13.0-13.5 grains of 4227 and it shoots as well as, or better than the GI issue stuff. Other powders work as well. Keep cases trimmed to length and use a taper crimp...not too much as the loaded round has to seat on the case mouth. LLS

And as stated, you are also limited on Bullet length and C.O.A.L. due to the magazine design for round nose bullets. I tried some other designs but feeding problems ensued, performance was bad and pressures went too high for safety.

Good info from the others. I use the Lee 309-113-F gas check boolit with Alliant 2400 or Hodgdon H110 powder. H110 is the best of those two for the .30 US Carbine, but I can't tell the difference between it and 2400 as far as cycling the action.

There is a group buy in progress for the 311410 from MP in brass. 2 or four cav, cramer style with long & short HP pins + pins for solid point, plain base or gas check.

MiHec Brass 311410 Cramer HP (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?167692-MiHec-311410-Brass-Cramer-HP)

Hope this helps,

No question the NOE 311115 boolit. I load the same OAL as jacketed 1.680". 12.5- 13.0 296 (some have gone to 14.5) I get remarkable accuracy from this set up.

I vote for the 311008 ( AKA 3118 ).

I have fired about a zillion of them in my M1 Carbine.
Never had a feed failure.

I have the Lyman 311359 pointed gas check mold and the boolits shoot great. Accurate plinking load for me uses AA9 and this bullet.
