I bought a .58 navy arms percussion rifle. The previous owner gave me some moulds and all kinds of stuff. Among it was four of these bullets. He said these were the most accurate in that gun but had no idea where to get them or where they came from. A guy gave him a bunch and only had these four left. Anyone have a idea what mould would make these?

From your pics it looks as though someone modified a minnie mold to add the extra cylindircal section on the nose. Frank

Challenger made wascutter molds. I have one I plan to try in my Snider. It drops at about .590.

I got a couple of minie molds from dixie were dirt cheap ,did not have all the ones listed in stock , but the 3 they had ,2 were of that style , not really what I was looking for , but have cast some and when I take the enfields to the range will try them , look like a garbage can .. It is Shiloh marketed 600g mold from the 1970's.A buddy has one.There is also a pictures of the Shiloh designs in the 1976 1st Edition Lyman Muzzleloaders Handbook.

Back when I was shooting musket, I shot some of them. They were called stakecutters if I remember right.

My friends that re-enact call them "Flying Trash Cans". For you younger folks, we used to put our garbage in metal cans. If you see one you'll get the picture...
