The "new" 338 Whisper i read about in the new American Rifleman is interesting.Well the late Roy Smith of Santa Clara Oregon used a cartridge called the "338 Manx" in CBA matches.it was a 6mm or 7mm BR case necked up to 338.He held quite a few records with it.He also had an article on Handloader of the 338-08 on a Savage 99 (that later became the 338 Federal). It would be nice if some credit wold be given to this cast bullet and cartridge deisgn pioneer.he was a getleman to shoot with even when he was whopping up on me.I miss big old Roy.

I have often thought the 338 federal would be just about a perfect north american game round. And should be great with cast. It is sad to keep losing our old mentors. Not many of em left.

Ya old Roy was a pretty neat fellow to shoot with. Most of those guys i shot with back when i was a 28 yr old kid just starting to shoot cast bullet matches are now gone.He also had an article in Handloader about S.E.E. back in the 1980's.He stuck with the 338 Manx on a 788 for all the time i shot with him. When i find a 338 Fed at a good price i am going to pick one up.
