I picked up some lead yesterday and found a rod that says; National lead co. The number on it is lll and has a little design on it. Is this pure lead or a alloy? Seems harder than the rest with the finger nail test and has difference in color. I think there is some tin in this. Any ideas?

Some of the old automotive body filler lead used to come in rods about 12-18 inches long. If that’s what it is it would probably be 60/40 or 70/30 lead/tin.

Do a search on National lead co. on here. This question has come up a couple of times in the last few years. Your question has been answered fairly recently.
