Will the ring affect the accuracy? It's a 500 gr 45-70 with 65 gr of FFg. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_2308950a7b8f3c6531.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=7480)

500 yds
hunting, steel or paper?
If hunting, squirrels, groundhogs, wild hogs, deer, elk, moose?
What caused the ring?
Just asking to try and get you an answer that is in line with your purpose.

Looks like the nose was deformed during seating.

It may have bumped up some in diameter if that is it. Have you tried chambering them?

What boolit?

How many are like this?

If they chamber and it is only a few I would just shoot them then report back. If you have loaded a whole bunch then that is a different story but again, if they chamber, I would shoot a few to see how they do at your intended range then decide after getting range results. If your intent is close range hunting or plinking then they may be just fine. If your intent is 500 yard target shooting they may not.

If they don't chamber then you have your answer ~ pull them and remelt.

I'm shooting paper at 100yds tomorrow. They deformed a little because the seating plug isn't really meant for round nose. They chamber without issue, it's a sharps with a 30" barrel. Is there a way for me to avoid the ring other than get a new plug?

I have had to polish the seating plug on several of my dies because of this. They are just not designed with cast boolits in mind.

I can't say I have ever really put much thought into weather or not it affected accuracy - I just thought they were ugly and needed fixing.

Ya, I'm not happy with the appearance. I just got the mould and it made great bullets. Now they look like horse dung. But if I can put three bullets in a 1 inch group tomorrow I won't really care.

A dap of epoxy on the seater plug will fix this. Use the 5 min type, put a tiny bit of vaseline on the end of the boolit and push it into the plug to form the epoxy. Then let it harden, and you should be good to go. To remove the epoxy, a couple of seconds under a propane torch and it comes right off.

No problem at all. Just a funny look!

Yeah I have a few seater dies that will do that to my boolits, mostly RCBS 30cal. The epoxy remedied that. Also works on top punches (if they are deforming) as well. No ugly boolits for me!

heard you can use hot glue in place of epoxy

Bullets and boolits steer from the back, the front is almost totally irrelevant. MIGHT
affect the ballistics a touch, but I suspect that you would not be able to detect it.

It looks like you are putting a lot of pressure on when seating the boolit. You may need a compression die.
