Sweet! Awesome looking lab! Is it your very first duck? Or just the first of the season?

If that is your first shot at a duck, you done good.
Hope you get many more, but if you want to keep your average up you will have to quit now. lol

Good shootin.

Called in over decoys? Who did the calling? What shotgun. Inquiring minds want to know.

Good job, no matter the circumstances. Wishing you many more successful hunts.

He looks happy but the lab is just thinking "I done my job, lets do it again".

Looks like a widgeon to me. Duck hunting is a lot of fun, wish I could do more.

First time he used a 12 guage Beretta 390 and Kent Faststeel. No decoys needed in the small flooded timber. One of the last woodies of the season. Dog is named Rudy and he just turned 1 years old. Last year we took him goose hunting and he didn't get a shot. [smilie=s:

Great job with the boy! Keep him in your sights and with future hunts and I'm sure that boy will be a testament to your time invested!

Now we need a post on his first roasted duck dinner!

Oh and as a fellow Lab owner, great looking pup as well.

(Priorities are to the boy of course)

That dog is a moose if it was four years old. And I know these guys, thegatman is doing right by that kid.

Thanks for all the replies. We are going to try the boy on the big honkers this coming week. Last year he never got a shot. We hope the dog is not goose shy cause as a pup he tangled with a big honker. I think they will both do good. I will keep you all posted.

They got a limit of 3 wooducks each. My son is the second from the left.

good thing you mentioned 2nd from the left or we would have thought you were proud of the Lab! Nice looking dog by the way.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing that. Brings back my own memories of duck hunting down on the crick.

I always enjoy seeing kids successful on a hunt! That's awesome Thegatman! Keep us posted on the goose hunt.

First duck is always a thrill. I remember hunting in the sloughs along the Sacramento River, and missing every one of a flock of teal that came over at daybreak.

At least you folks are getting out there. Have missed the season this year due to work even after all the decoy and boat prepping. Boy I miss the sunrises viewed from a marsh. Good luck on the next hunt!
