Almost shot the Chronograph

The bullet sliced almost completely through the bungee cord holding it down. :holysheep I am considering this a lucky warning to be more careful.

Almost? Doesn't that mean you missed?

First shot I ever fired over mine knicked a wire supporting the screens, didn't cut thru it butit is bent more than 90 degrees.

Correct Junior....so I always advise, especially when shooting gaschecks....borrow a friends chronograph.....don't ask why I give that advice but I will say having both a Chrony and a Pact....the Pact is cheapest to repair.

That is why mine has most of the electronics separate from the screens and yes I have shot the screens on more than one occasion. [smilie=b:

Yup - took me 40 years to finally get around to breaking a skyscreen, so I ordered a spare from Oehler, just in case I live another 40 years.:smile:

Is there a brand of chrony that will replace once if shot?

I have a 1/3 bullet trace on top of the start screen of my pact chrono, does that qualify for shooting your chrono? I saw it wiggle when I shot it, so I went to investigate. Kept right on working, so no harm no foul. I did lower it a smidge though!:neutral:

I was at a friend's range at his place in the country. Had to put the chrono on a saw horse in front of the bench, and had no way to secure it. The muzzle blast blew it off the saw horse, but that is as close as I have come to shooting it. But I'm not done shooting, so there is still a chance! I dont use it much any more as my load work was completed years ago.

I barely winged the top of the steel case of my Chrony with a jacketed 223, and the steel shaved off just enough copper to break the first photo eye. I had to get a new case from Chrony.

I've shot quite a few of the skyscreen rods with handguns. The 454 casull had quite spectacular results.

FYI - if your gonna test some 500 S&W loads .............. start out lite and work your way up - get used to the kick all over again !
Had the hots to see how fast a new load (read HOT) was. Didn't warm up ......... lets just say I need to see if Cronys are still on sale at Midway ??

Yes, this wasn't 500 S&W, it was 308 Win but I hear ya on the working your way up, and that's exactly what I did with the 500. :)

Chrony is great about taking the "holy" Chronys in on trade. I had a gas check come off a 22 cal boolit and go thru the display on my first Chrony. I did have a piece of plexiglass for a shield but had forgotten it that day.
My new one has the display on the bench.
