I have been shooting 44 special for a long time. I've been using a cast 200 grain RNFP for a long time always with trailboss or Clays. But I recently came into posession of a quantity of Bullseye and would like to use it. Can't seem to find any data on the use of Bullseye with this bullet. Anyone out there got any suggestions/favorite loads with this bullet and propellent?

I've used 5.0 Grains with a Lee 200 RF bullet in my .44 Special...model 24.

Yup. 5.0 Bullseye is just about a universal load with any cast bullet in .44 Special. Or just use the same charge weight you use with Clays.

i use 4.0-4.5 grs of clays/titegroup/231 in some of my 200- 240 gr 44 special loads.
so that's where i'd start with bullseye.

it's one of those has more oomph than you think it does type loads.
it will tip over 100 yd rams with a mediocer hit.

Ditto!

Bulls Eye is my favorite for the .44 special

I am using 4.6 grains under a 230 grain HP cast of air cooled 50/50 from my charter arms bulldog. Whacks and expands with AUTHORITY.

No Bulls Eye bashing?

B E is about my favorite powder! Tiny amounts light and burn well. For all around shooting - plinking 1lb will take you quite a ways!

Some of us may not like Bullseye overmuch, but the man said he has some of it and wants to use it.

One of the more unfortunate aspects of the internet is that it brings out the snarky, rude, and belittling traits in some people. Making replies in person like those we read here every day would result in a black eye or a broken nose.

I'm not directing this at you, mroliver. It's just an observation.

My Lyman 49th edition shows a 205 gr SWC with a starting load of 5.1 gr Bullseye and a 210 gr. SWC GC boolit with a starting load of 4.5 gr. of Bullseye. The concensus of the group so far is that there will be no problem with the above mentioned loads with your 200 gr. RNFP. Just go with it and have fun.

I loaded 20 with 5.0 grains and went to the range. They shot great. The steel plates never knew what hit them. NO pressure signs at all and only a slight smoking around the case mouth. I may bump the charge up just a tiny bit to try and eliminate the smoking, but am delighted with how they shot. Thanks again guys.

.38 special with 140 150 gr. WC is 2500 rounds per pound at 2.8 gr per load.
The last 4# keg of Bullseye was $53. That breaks down to a fraction over (.0052)
half a cent per round for powder.

If you cast your own from scavenged lead, equals just over .04 per shot,
not counting sweat equity and your time. As cheap as shooting a .22 RF.

I had to go to one of my old Lyman books to even find a BE load for 44mag. 250gr. lead bullet, max load of BE 6gr. Your 8gr load under a 280gr boolit may be a little warm....for the 44spl it shows a 250gr boolit with 4.9gr BE max. Bullseye is not really a very good powder for either caliber according to this manual, in fact of all the powders mentioned in this book (No. 44) for these two calibers BE shows the least velocity by far...:coffeecom
