Found some of this the other day. And one of the loaded rounds. WOW is that a big bullet. Is there any market for the brass?

This summer while digging up the range for lead, I came across one of the bullets. I did not know what it was for until a couple of days ago when I found a loaded one. Solid brass!

I load the 50 beo. for a friend,(well he comes out while I "help" him), the brass is VERY hard to come by. I lucked out when we started loading for his AR, midway just happened to have some .

If the round you found was solid brass, it was probably made for a LEO department, meant for a barricade stopper. The 50 beowulf is a .500 bullet, normally loaded with 350 grain hollow points. The barricade stoppers are made to stop a car/vehicle by penetrating the engine block, killing the engine.

His AR is a hoot to shoot! It recoils a lot like a 12 ga. slug gun. It's quite accurate, but expensive to shoot, even when handloaded. Jacxeted 350 HP bullets cost plenty, but no where near what factory loaded ammo costs. Alexander arms is the ONLY source for loaded ammo OR empty brass.

I shoot a 50 beo quite a bit. If you have some to part with, I would be interested. I am using 450 grain hollow points over 28 grains of H-110.
I call it "The hammer of God". And when you are SMITED, Brother, you have been SMITED!!! I have never recovered a boolit. Even from shooting a 600 pound donkey broadside. If I ever find myself being attacked by rabid grizzleys, Apache helo's, or runaway 3/4 ton trucks, that is the ONLY round I want in my hands. 20 rounds of 50 beo is a force to be reconed with. At 100 yards, it will RIP 10 pound rail road tie plates off of double 3/8 chain and throw them about 20 feet. I will bet on it for anything just short of Elephant. And even then, I still think it would be a fair fight.

Wife shot a 1500 lb asian water buffalo with mine. Two shots no recovered bullets.

X101 I have 24 of these if you want to trade. I need some 30cal gas checks if you have extras.

I ordered my upper today. I had one back in 2001 when they first came out, then sold it. Brass was $48/100 back then, now it is $65/100, whoa. Starline has brass in stock right now @ $189.50/250.

Fortunately, I kept a bunch of brass and projectiles.

But, my focus this time is going to be on cast boolits in the Beowulf.

I was on the Accurate Molds sight poking around, and saw this:
http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=50-335B-D.png

looks to me like it might be patterned after the Ranier 335, with a lube groove outside the case. The meplat is a little small to my liking, though. The Ranier has about a .250 meplat. I think member Frozone has had no trouble with the 440 gr. 500 S&W boolits feeding, so I will definitely be trying them.

I am going to keep the new one simple, but I will probably put a scope on it, something like a leupold VX Hog.

Here was my first one:

A little advice. Contact Al Nelson. He cut me two custom molds and I LOVE em. If you would like a sample, contact me and I would be happy to send you some. The nose on this one that he cut was about .35+. It is huge. Gearnasher says you could take a bath in the hollowpoint. There are a couple pics of my boolits floating around here.

Frankenfab,
I went with the Leupy VX-R. Same as the hog, but in 30mm. At the time, they were only about 20.00 more. I just love that VX-R. I think you will be very pleased with the VX hog.
