Hey guys, I don't know how I did this, but one of my two Lyman Manuals is MIA. And it's the one that has data for the 358242 120g variant. Can someone confirm that 4.0g of Bullseye is safe under that boolit in 9mm Luger? I'm pretty sure that data for the 356402 is interchangeable, tho pressures may go up a little due to the deeper seating of the base in the 242.

Again, just wanting to confirm that 4.0g is a safe load with this boolit. I believe the 402 data shows 3.7-4.4g of Bullseye.

Oh, man. I just went to the bookcase and remembered I loaned my Lyman manual to an employee last week. Arrgh.

I show a #356242 for #2 alloy - shows a suggested starting load of 3.4 and a max of 4.2 for Bullseye. This is from the Lyman 49th Edition and checked in the Cast Bullet Handbook.

And the max for the 402 shows 4.2 grains of Bullseye.

My Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 1973 shows 358242 (121 gr) Bullseye 3.7 to 4.4.

My Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th Ed. shows 356242 (120 gr) Bullseye 3.4 to 4.2

So the consensus is that although it seems a little on the high end, it is safe?

Using the autodisk meter that is .43cc (says should drop at 4.0g for bullseye) but actually drops closer to 3.9 I believe, chargers were a little on the lite side when checked.

My 3rd edition of lymans pistol revolver has 4.2 max for both the 242 and 402.

I too have found 4.2 grains as the max recommended load by Lyman. I have used 4.0 with 358242 (120 grain) and it shot well, but slightly "snappy", so I backed down to 3.8. I use a taper crimp with my 9mms as I don't want to deal with the issue of bullet OAL getting a little less as that plays havoc with the pressure. I run 9mms in a luger and don't want to batter it as luger parts nowadays aren't easy to find and cost quite a bit. While Bullseye and other powders in and around it on the chart are excellent with the 9mm, I wound up going with 4756 (3.8 grains) as it fills just about all of the case and generates lower pressure. Accuracy is good. 358242 is a good bullet and feeds reliably for me in my Baretta and 952. LLS

Dave, the 3rd Edition of the Cast Bullet Handbook shows mas of 4.4 with the 402. My Lyman Pistol and Revolver book is the one I lost. So I cant reference what the Edition was, but it was the new one I think.

Loup, like I said, this on is dropping at about 3.8-3.9 consistently. One thing I will say, I loaded the 402 with I believe 4.0+g of unique once, and it was quite snappy as well. But haven't loaded either with bullseye yet. This is the first time.

Just remembered where I stuck that book. I had been sorting through .556 brass, and had stuck it with it, in a box. 4.2g is max with the 358242, and 4.0g Bullseye is a safe load.
