Do any of you have any load suggestions for a Lyman 311041 boolit in the 30-30 using Hercules 2400? Looking for a mid range load.

I've been getting good results with 14 gr. of 1400 behind a 311291 in my Marlin, nice mild load.

I used 12.0 x 2400 x 311291 to hammer the 200 meter gong at my home range since forever, but it has a rainbow trajectory--to describe it kindly. Ken's load sounds a bit more useful, and in another thread Felix mentioned using 16.0 grains with heavier boolits. Dunno about that one--I'd work up to it from below.

I'd just start at 12.0 grains and work it up 1.0 grain at a time, looking for a sweet spot in your rifle.

Thanks, Jim and Al! Now we're talking! The board now has some hands-on experience with 2400 in the 30-30. Again, great show and tell, and thanks! ... felix

Not much help but I used more 4227 with that load than #2400. About 17.0grns. Also, 17.5grns SR4759 was a accurate load with the 170gc.

How about with a Lee 150 grainer?

14.5 grains of 2400 under the Lee 150 works well for me in a Marlin 30AS.

Felix- Actually I got my info from imashooter2, I'm still playing around but the weather here lately isn't conducive for crony work, rain every day. I'm hoping the groups will hold as the velocity goes up as I'm about out of travel on the rear sight and still quite low on the target at 50yds.

.303 Savage, a .30-30 by another name;
113gr fgc, 9gr Universal, 1560fps, about 1 1/4" at 50yd, 10.5gr Herco, 1730fps, same results.
1602R gc,18gr IMR 4227,1700fps, less than 1 1/2" at 50 yds, 34gr IMR4064, 2170fps,1 1/2" at 50 yds.
200gr rn gc, 26gr IMR 4198, 2000fps and 35gr BLC-2, 2000fps, both about 1 1/4" ,50yds.
My '99 seems to really like water dropped, hard cast gas checks with LBT soft blue lube.

Ok my bullet is the Ideal 311407 so what do you guys suggest with 1400. I use 16 to 19 grains of 2400 for all my milsurp loadings and my 308 so that is one Powder I would always have on hand but I have not seen many loadings for the 30/30

Thanks guys.

This load is actually for my shooting buddy that I'm supplying some of my new casts to. I told him that 2400 may not be the ideal powder, but he has lots of that and Unique. Sounds like 12 to 16 grains of 2400 for the 311041 is the plan.

Be aware Alliant lists 16.0 grains of 2400 as max for a 152 grain cast bullet. The 311041 is going to be heavier than that by a good margin.

I've been following this thread with some interest as I'm presently shooting the 311041 bullet ahead of 16 gr. of "Old 2400" using a Win Mag Rifle primer. The rifle is a '94 Winchester made in 1949 that I've owned 40 yrs. or more. Naturally I was concerned that I don't damage the rifle so I decided to chronograph the load. From the 20" barrel I'm getting 1670 fps using this load combination and recoil is noticeably less than with a factory 150 load. I did have to adjust the sight ladder to the top notch to get on target. The extraction is not sticky in the least so I'm thinking this load is okay in my gun at least.
