My Marlin 35 Rem does not like the 190 Ranch Dog but does like some jacketed very well and will shoot the RCBS 200 FN under 1.5" at 100 yd when loaded light with 8 gr Unique. What would the velocity be and is there an alloy that would make it an adequate deer slayer up to 75 yds?

I got 2150fps out of my .35 and an RCBS mold that dropped 215gr pills, printed 1.5"-2.0" at 100yds.

This link does not have info on downloading .35 Rem with Unique, but it does have info on many other powders...

I have been using .358" 158gr lead with from 5-8gr of Red Dot, and am very happy with the accuracy at 50 yards...

...............My 35 Rem is a small ring Mauser. Barrel is a 16" twist which is also what Marlin uses I believe.

Four hunting loads with 35 Rem Mauser using Saeco #356 FNGC 200gr cast and WC846. 39.0 = 2140, 40.0 = 2271, 40.5 = 2272, 41.0 = 2334. Fired at 50 yards.

Thanks for the good info. I will keep trying.

Buckshot, where did you get a 35 Remington barrel for your small ring Mauser?

Did you have to alter the bolt?

Your rifle is very nice.

............Russ, A buddy and I both had one built. We ordered the barrel blanks from the Montana Rifleman (as I recall they had 2 or 3 twists to pick from). We had a local gunsmith contour and fit them to the actions. Neither of us had to alter the boltfaces, nor the follower.

A milder load than I use for the 35 Rem but with the same alloy would be 20-21 gr 4759 for 1700 - 1800 fps out of your Marlin. Should be quite accurate especially if 19 - 20 gr is used with a 1/2 gr dacron filler.

My 35 Rem is a M91 Mauser rebarreled with a Shilen prethreaded SR barrel from Brownell's. I did not have to alter bolt face and extraction is 100% positive. Loads fine with M91 stripper clips. Did shim the front sides of the mag to keep the rounds at the rear of the mag for postive feeding. Target shows two 5 shot groups for zero with 2nd five shot group just above POA. Larger target is at 200 yards after adding 3 moa to ear sight.

Load used on deer is the 35-200-FN cast of COWWs +2% tin with 50% lead added and AC'd. They are HP'd to 1/8" with a Forster 1/8" HP tool. 37 gr 4895 pushes them at 2150 fps. Texas buck was shot right at 90 yards and he staggered 20 yards ors down hill lightly to the right and went down. Was dead by the time I walked up to him.

That is the exact opposite of the results I get with my Marlin 336 35 Rems.

I found the rd 190 works good when right combination of powder and proper sized boolit is found. I have been working with a rem 760 and a rem 81 the past couple weeks. For a hoot try 5 gr trailboss with the rd 190. It doesn't cycle the semi but the feeling it gives is a blast.(kinda like shooting a pogo stick)
