35 Whelen Bullet -220-240 Question

I have a 35 Whelen that I would like to cast for (for hunting). I am looking for something in the 220-240 grain window with a GC. I can get what I want from Accurate or Mountain, but have a quick question.

Should I have the shoulder of the bullet coincide with the barrel lead or should I have a little room for the bullet to jump?

I still need to slug the throat, but I think I have the reamer specs rat holed away.

Go to Mountain, and just draw yourself up a Loverin type. Mine came out at about 265, and is a real shooter.

I found the info on the barrel chamber. It has a 0.3555 throat, 0.140 long and according to my notes from Bob Applegate needs a cast bullet with a 0.350 Bore Ride nose.

He also mentioned a "Cleaning Groove" ahead of the front driving band - not familiar with that - can anyone explain?

Also - can you explain the difference in GC Shank Designs? There seems to be quite a difference in the two shank diameters.

Just a groove with a leading edge that does not engage the rifling, a place for gunk to accumulate without getting swept between the boolit and the bore. Particularly important with Black Powder.

Thanks. I guess I don't necessarily need it since I won't be shooting black. I have Felix Lube on hand, and I don't usually see leading, although this will be the first rifle I have tried it in.

I'd get the Saeco 245 grain, it's deadly in my .35s.
