I'm going to try something a bit different for my .45-70 Contender. I ran off some AC WWs in a .490 RB mold and pushed 'em through a Lee .459 sizing die. What came out was a .459-170-ballet.

First thing will be to find the bottom of the pressure window and then work back up to the sweet spot. I intend to start with Unique and a locator filler.

Gimme a coupla' days and I'll post results.

Well, Jim.

Seems I am the only one to find them interesting.

I do not have anything that large but It looks like a really good plinking ballet.
I for one would like to hear how they work.

I used to load .360 balls in the .38 Special for plinking in the garage.

I have done quite a bit of chronogaphing with Unique in cast bullet loads in the .30-30 and the .38-55. I find that the difference in the average velocity between powder tapped forward, powder center, and powder back against the primer is less than the extreme spread on any random 10 shot string. That is about 20 to 30 fps in a 1400 fps load. I no longer use any filler with Unique.

Ya prolly should have gotten in on the 45/70 Collar button GP, instead of trying to make ballets work for you.........
