If this has been posted before, I apologize. I just saw it. Glad I could watch someone else shoot it.

The Largest Center Fire Rifle Ever Made:

Put aside your girly .458 Win Magnum or your wimpy .50 cal and watch guys shoot

a real gun. The largest center fire rifle ever made, the .950 JDJ by SSK Industries of

Ohio. Only three were ever made. This was the lightest, the carbine version, weighing

in at 50 lbs. It shoots a .95 caliber 2,400 grain bullet at 2,100 fps using 240 grains of

powder, which generates 25,400 f/lbs of muzzle energy and 277 f/lbs of recoil energy.

Each round costs $40.

Yeah, at 40.00 a round, I can shoot 50 BMG RAUFAUS ammo and take out anything from amoebas to aircraft including FOX and APC vehicles. And my weapon doesn't weigh 40 pounds. An interesting weapon, for sure. Just dont know what in the heck I would do with it.

I'll probably shoot one of them, right after I jump out of a good airplane, in fact I just filed it in the same file of things to do.

Shooting one of those, especially the later versions that were much heavier, seems much safer than climbing out on on a potential slide to set charges, especially for smaller slides in areas that don't have bomb trams in place.

It is not the largest but indeed the nost powerfull centerfire rifle.
2 bores are a wee bit bigger in diameter.

Why a .950 JDJ ? ...... Cause he dosn't make a 1.00 JDJ ........... YET !

I'm with Box13 - I'd pull the trigger, ONCE. Just to say I did it !!

I like big bores, would try it once just to say I did it, twice I might think about it. Shot 100 rounds of ammo yesterday 50- 45/70 400gr boolit at 1700fps and 50- 30-06 with 200gr boolit at 1975fps, wouldn't want to shoot it today shoulder is a little tender but the week end would be OK.

It just occurred to me that a .950 Whisper is next since J.D. Jones developed those too. I might be willing to shoot one of those.

The whisper version might kick more. boolit weight would go up from 3.5 lbs to probly 8 lbs or even more. Really practical though, you could us it (along with your time machine) to hunt the big dinosaurs.

What, no 5-shot groups?!

Add a little bore diameter and some wheels... then I might be more impressed. :bigsmyl2:

Maybe as a younger man I would have thought about pulling the trigger on something like that, but after 37 pcs of surgical hardware in my back and right shoulder I think I will have to pass. I have a 300 win mag that I haven't shot in years for that very reason.

Best wishes,

Joe
