Don't know what a 7.62 x 54 is. If you mean 7.62 X 51, then yes, thats the NATO
metric designation comparable to .308Win.
IF the 51mm Lngth is what you mean, yes that brass can be used, but there's more to it than just resizing and trimming.
We cangive more details(if Needed) when we know more on the application.

Pepe, I think he is talking about making 7.62x54 Russian from 8x57 with a .308 die? From the drawings in my Sierra manual, the neck length and dia. at the shoulder are about the same. But the shoulder angle is slightly different. The biggest problems I see is that the Russian has a big rim and .489 dia. body at the base compared to the 8mm and .308 which are rimless and .470 body at the base.

Dombra, are you trying to make cases for a Mosin-Nagant?

I've always thought the 7.62x54R is a pretty well designed case. I think it would work great in a single shot, like an Encore, etc. with that big rim. But I don't think you can make brass for it out of anything else that is readily available. Even 30-40 brass has a smaller rim and body at the base.
Wow, I just looked at Midway and the only makers they list for 7.62 brass is Lapua and Norma, ouch! Is reloadable brass for this that hard to come by? With all the surplus Mosin's around you would think someone else would be making brass for it.

Grafs (http://www.grafs.com/metallic/product/108349) has 7.62 x 54R brass with their name on it

I bought some last fall ( on sale )
I have loaded some of it 12 times with cast bullets and the only case I lost so far was steped on

So IMO use the right brass

Grafs brass in 762X54r is excellent stuff. Have a few hundred cases needing loading... You cannot go wrong with it....

The Mosin's case is indeed fatter at the head than the Mauser's. Doesn't extract and eject well without the rim, either, though it can be done. Get the Graf's brass.
