I have been up here in Maine for the last few months working and it looks like I have about another 2 months to go. I always wanted to see the color change in this part of the world so that was an added bonus when I got this assignment. Since my Ladyfriend came up to visit this weekend we went out and did some driving and flying around. 2 goals of this trip were met- fly around and look at the leaves and see a moose.

Here are a few pictures taken from a canoe. The place I am staying is on a lake and last tuesday there was no wind. The cloud cover was kinda bad but the wind wasn't.

I had several loons around me at one point. They kept diving and it was tough to get a picture.

I had originally planned to go to Mount Washington, NH after picking ladyfriend up from the Portland Airport thursday but the cloud cover was too low and rain was too bad so we just drove around and ended up here...

The next day we headed up to Moosehead Lake...

This was taken at a rest area on the way.

When we got to Moosehead lake I wanted to go up in an airplane to see the leaves. This 1954 Dehavilland Beaver fit the bill just fine. Of course, I just had to sit next to the pilot...

And a few pictures from 1550 feet...

Yesterday we went to Rangeley. The weather was again a little rainy. On the way we stopped at Small's Falls for this shot.

When we got to Rangeley we just rode around and looked for moose. This is the result.

From the photos that you have posted, except for the Moose it looks a lot like the Ozarks.
Thanks for posting them. Nice pictures.......Terry

I wish. The ozarks typically aren't nearly as colorful. We have too much underbrush consisting of "weeds" in comparison. We have sumac and they don't, and our sumac is no where near that plentiful to match up with their volume of maples. However, Crowley's Ridge in the eastern part of the state (MO;AR) can be compared to the New England woods because, believe it or not, the tree varieties can be closely compared, but only lacking in number down here. ... felix

I have taken pictures while in a small plane, and if you are the only one in the back seat you can take pictures out of both sides of the plane a lot easier.

Nice pictures, and your lady friend too.
Enjoy!

Nice pictures, and your lady friend too.

Ditto for me. Is that a tatoo on her ring finger?

Great photos.

I grew up just south of Moosehead Lake. I hope you were using a zoom lens when you were photographing Mama Moose. She's more dangerous than the Bull when she has a fawn.

Keep it up and you might ask for a permanent posting up there if you don't mind the cold and the taxes...

Beau, Janet said to tell you the photo of your friend by the waterfall is absolutely PERFECT for a mantle piece portrait!

Good job with the camera, bud!

Thanks for the kind words. The pictures were taken with an old Nikon handheld camera. And yes- that is a tattoo of my signature on her ring finger.

I enjoyed them all but the fill flash in the shot by the waterfall is perfect. Lovely photo.

New England is the best part of the country. I know everyone says that about their own area, but I have to say, this might be the best. Being raised in the miltary, and having lived all over the world. I am glad I settled here.
Kennebunk is a touristy little town. Moosehead is gorgeous.Try to visit Portsmouth NH if you can sometime.

Great pics Beau, I have spent time in all of the New England States, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine are the best of the six. Massachusetts comes in last, IMHO it comes in last of all 50. Been around Moosehead a few times, awesome place to be. A funny story about one time in August about 20 years ago my friend I a were staying at his place on Lake St George in Liberty, Me. On one morning we decided to ride our motocycles up to Greeneville at the souther end o Moosehead lake. Whene we left is was about 75 degrees and sunny. Byt the time we got to Greeneville it was about 35 degrees, overcast and very windy. It got cooler on the ride north but we just thought, "how bad can it get??". But we pressed on. When we got there we found a diner had a couple coffee's and headed south again, quickly. 85 to 90 MPH's and we could feel the air warming as we got further south. Back at his place it was 80 plus and still sunny. Was a fun day.

WOW! Down East and Moosehead lake on the same day? Do you guys slow down and smell the roses?? And then Rangely Lakes, just a drive by? I could spend a month at each and still be happy.

Absolutely beautiful pictures of a beautiful woman in a gorgeous scene. Hard to ask for better.

When she goes home please take some pics of the second floor of the Kittery Trading Post, just for the memories, please? I know you have been there or are going.

Very pretty. Someday I want to see the northeast in the fall.

Around here we have green, brown and calf scour yellow. Not quite as pretty.
