You'll find that in many to most cartridges, Universal closely matches Unique. You can use it for the same things you'd use Unique - but with possibly a slightly different charge.

It's good stuff. I got rid of my last can of Unique and now use Universal exclusively.

I've never gotten great accuracy w/ lead bullets in 9mm or 40 using Universal. WHile it is sim to Unique, the accuracy just isn't there for me. Loading data is NOT interchangeable either, so proceed w/ caution. You could of course use Unique starting data & work up.

For lead boolits I think Hodgen lists 3.8gr - 4.3gr of Universal for the 124/125 gr. cast. Universal meters a lot better than Unique and is slightly cleaner burning.

As far as accuracy goes, its like everything else some pistols like it and some don't. A lot of 9mms don't like lead boolits and won't shoot lead real well. You don't see many people that shoot the 9mm in competition shooting cast boolits. There are a few, but most shoot the J word. Lead boolits are fine for plinking and informal shooting in a 9mm.

You don't need to guess at charges. The Hodgdon website has all the data you need. I compared it to Unique to clarify what uses it is intended for.

Is it as position insensitive as Unique?

I can't answer that. I never give a thought to position sensitivity except for VERY light loads (such as my 2.5 TiteGroup in the .223 load). Since I don't shoot at airplanes or my own toes, I assume that the normal cycling of the gun to chamber a round settles the powder pretty much level in the case.

Gunoil, Where on earth would you ever get 102rn boolits? :)

After sending you some I decided to load some up with some plain based gas checks to see how they fly in my Glock and my Taurus 709 Slim. I'm also going to put some checks on the 105swc, just haven't loaded any of them yet.

I haven't loaded the little boolits in 9mm since the 80s. They shot great but I wasn't really pushing them and they certainly weren't fitted with checks. BTW, I got the boolits you sent me, very purty! I certainly need to lube and load them too! Thanks again. Frank

thanks, this forum blows me away, it will humble ! unique match will help. Shooting 4.1/4.2 next , the 4.5/4.6 lil' too much but shot fine. Can u members speak about bullet drift to lower left of target with the 4.6 gr charge? I was shooting 4.0 dead on.

Thanks frank, the LEE 102 mold is great, mine are scaling @107.. I love them 124's charged @3.8. I have to stay in this area with my db9, Dang pistol is great in my opinion.
