Hello,

Does anyone have a formula for how much pure lead to add to clip on wheelweights to get it down to something similar to 30:1 or 20:1 alloy in the 9 or 10 BHN?

Thanks!!

50/50 should be pretty close. -JDL

Have you measured your clip on weights first?

All mine are 9.5-9.8 BHN prior to adding anything.

if you melt all your wws clip ons and stick ons together your not going to be far from that as is.

My ACWW (clip-on) boolits come out around 13-14 BHN....If I want 9 BHN I just put them in a toaster oven at around 450* (according to dial)
After a hour I turn the oven down halfway between off and 450* for a bit then to off and let the boolits cool down on their own....
I just tested some that were annealed last Sept and they are still 9 BHN right on the money....... learned this from "Crazy Dans" website .....:)

I get a BHN of 10 on my cabine tree tester by using 2 parts WW and 1 part pure lead. I also add a 6" piece of 95/5 solder wire to a 20# pot of alloy just to bump up the tin content for castability.

WW varies enough so you'll just have to try and see.

27% WW + 73% Pb = 9.08 Bhn
50% WW + 50% Pb = 10.0 Bhn
(Based on WW's with a Bhn of 12)
