You can send it back to Ruger and they should fix it for free.

I did once file down the large end of the bushing a bit, apply some red (permanent) loctite, and then gently peen over the edges of the depression in the barrel. It never came out again while I owned the gun, anyway.

Soft solder would be plenty good for that job, Just get everything real clean, tin the parts well heat and press it in.

Long point, If you solder the bushing back in, fill the bore with Keepbrite (Brownells), or soldering flux so you don't scale up the bore. Let it cool slowly to minimize hardening of the barrel. Don't use the 1200 degree silver solder if you use silver solder. Use the 450 degree stuff.

That will work on a 44-40 but on a 44 Mag you need to use real silver solder and do a GOOD job. The quickie fixes are OK for the short term, but they will come loose sooner or later. The original job from the factory is brazed and I have seen a couple of them shoot off of the magnums.

Ruger factory fixes are free, except for the outrageous shipping!

44-40 ruger or rifle only loads will match or beat the 44 mag spec's. 2400 or 4227 will kick a 205 gr over 2000 fps in rifle
