I'm an aspiring gunsmith. I was going to apply to the AGI gunsmithing school and I attempted to us my SGLI from my service in the army so I could afford it. BUt, the VA guys said that AGI wasn't an acredited school. does anyone know any corraspondance schools that might be?...What really attracted me to AGI was their enhansed master course came with tools that I otherwise woudn't be able to afford..any help would be appriciated

Do you qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill or did you separate prior to that and will be using the Montgomery GI Bill?

If you are using the Post 9/11 GI bill I highly suggest you attend a brick and mortar, butt in the seat gunsmithing school.

I have friends who did the AGI course and the PennFoster correspondence course. Both can be easily out-gunsmithed by any starting gunsmith who did an apprenticeship or went to an actual class where the had hands on learning.

If you want in depth information on the GI Bill (either one) PM me and I will provide it for you.

I separated post 911. I want to do a butt in seat scholl but I work full time sometimes 75hrs a week at a factory in West Virginia. I have a family to support and I think coraspondence is my only option.

Hmmm. Look into AGI. My friends are kind of slow so no surprise on their lack of skill.

You also receive BAH under the post 9/11 Gi bill for correspondence courses. I believe it is the national average, or something like $600.00 and change.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me here or shoot me a PM. I can talk about the different GI Bills for days, how to apply for them, benefits of them, etc.

Also don't forget the vocational rehab portion of VA benefits. If you go over a certain disability amount they take very good care of you for trade schooling. If you have a hard time getting in touch with your VA rep also let me know. A very good friend of mine has been a VA rep for going on 5 years now. He is very good at what he does, and I can give you his contact information.

http://www.trinidadstate.edu/gunsmithing-school.html This is where I went to school 35 year ago. It was a good program then. Hopefully it still is. Don't expect to come out of ANY school (except perhaps the one in Liege Belgium if it's still running) a "gunsmith". 2 years is no where near enough time. It is a continual learning process.
