I am pleased to announce the arrival of my son, Rowan Eugene, on 09/11/12. Mom and baby are doing fine, but I still havent been able to talk her into getting his first gun yet.

You have a year or two to convince her! I started our boys with the Ruger Convertible Single Six, small enough for a 5 year old to handle, slow and deliberate firing, and teaches muzzle control like nothing else I would put in the hands of a child.

Congratulations!!! I'm curious as to how you picked the name Rowan. In some literature you will find references to a Rowan tree, which we in the USA call a European Mountain Ash. It has clusters of white flowers in the spring and should be covered with orange berries this time of year. It also has a distinctive shiny copper colored bark. Enough with the useless trivia and good luck with your little man, Dale

DHurtig - you are on the right track with the Mountain Ash. The Celts frequently used this wood in talismans and charms leading to one of the names meanings of Great Protector. It can also mean red-headed, due to the clusters of red berries produced by the ash tree, and there was a good chance of him being a red head.

Momma and baby did fine last night, my first night back to work.
