Burn rate if I am correct is close to 4198. It is a powder that is not position sensative. Doesn't have to be covering primer hole when used.
Great for cast bullets in big capacity cartridges.
Have used it in my 45-70's, 40-90SBN, 45-100 worked good can be a little dirty but I think I would try a few different primers before I dumped on it for that.

[smilie=1: Just ignore the crud left in the barrel [smilie=1:

I use it in a lot of round's it isn't listed for , even some pistol rounds
Anything big with straight walls or close , it normaly works great

The heavyer the bullet , the cleaner it shoots
You will not get the fastest velositys , but I normaly get great groups

I just typed in "5744" as the search term, and had over 200 hits. I'd bet that you can find a lot of 5744 info in that many posts!

I believe you'll be surprised at how many uses we here have found for the stuff....

The AA5744 is a good powder for cast bullets. It's burning range is somewhere in the 4227 area. For my 47-70 Marlin I use 27 gr. with a small dacron filler and a 400 gr.Lyman 457643 with good results. I have also used it in a 30-30,I think about 16 or 17 gr. and it shot very well. I have several pounds and will shoot it up but I seem I do just as well with IMR 4198, especially in my milsurps. I can usually find Accurate powders around here but 5744 can be scarce at times. On the other hand anyone that keeps powder has IMR 4198.

I use AA5744 in my Siamese 45-70 with 457121, 457198 and lee457-340; in 35 Rem with 358430 and in 30-06 with 311291. Shoots very well in those calibers. I have tried it in others, with varying amounts of sucess, but, thinking back, it has never shot really bad in anything I have tried it in. It does leave a lot of crud in the barrel.

I been trying it my 41 Swiss, 380 gr. bullet, 23 grs.- 2 to 3 in. groups at 100 yds.Like others say dirty . Maybe a tuff of dacon may work better.

If you look at lar45's post about his lube winning CBA's Mil. bench rest match and open this link http://www.castbulletassoc.org/milit...kota052007.pdf
for the scores, every shooter used AA5744.

I tried it a couple of years ago in an Ott6, didn't like it, too dirty, (filler didn't make any difference) left flakes in the chamber which dented the next case fired.

2400. SR4759 or BD shot just as good in my rifles and is cleaner, I will stay with them.

If you go to AA's web page and ask for a load for some REALLY unusual rifle cartridge their recommendation is almost certainly going to be 5744. Works very well in every weird cartridge I've ever loaded for. Well worth keeping around!
