BY a 15 yr. OLD SCHOOL KID
who got an A+ for this entry
(TOTALLY AWESOME)!
Since the Pledge of Allegiance
And
The Lord's Prayer
Are not allowed in most
Public schools anymore
Because the word 'God' is mentioned.....
A kid in Arizona wrote the attached
NEW School prayer:

"New Pledge of Allegiance"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
If you aren't ashamed to do this, Please pass this on..
Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my
Father.'
Oh yeah. Let's have CHURCH in school why don't we? Then we can call it The Ministry of Education instead of "public school". I just hope you like the standardized religion they wll be teaching. Some of you have a very bad mental disconnect here, think about it before you go jumping on the bandwagon. Remember why a determined separation of church and state is so important to a free country.
Freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Yeah, we get it about the separation, but that is an age-old argument that apparently only Christians can lose, I guess? Here in WA, it has gotten so out of hand, the Governor banned Christmas trees in the State Capitol building over this nonsense.
Freedom of religion, in the original sense, is freedom from state sponsored and required religion. In England and Germany, up until WWII, public taxes paid pastors of the state church. This is what we are protected "from". It is not "separation", that was a statement in a letter and has never had any force of law.
I was under the impression it was a separation of "Church and State" not "God and State." The difference being the Founding Fathers had no problem with folks worshipping, they just did not want a mandated religion. We had just left a country with an "Official Religion" and wanted no part of that. Of course we also wanted no part of "professional politicians" and we see how that has fallen by the wayside.
Gear,
As Wayne the Shrink rightly points out, the "separation of church and state" phrase was not taken from the Constitution but rather from a letter written by Jefferson years after the Constitution was adopted. Jefferson wrote in response to Baptists in Danbury, CT who had heard a false rumor that the government was contemplating creating a state religion. He assured them that the "Constitution has created a wall of separation between church and state." In other words, the government would stay out of the business of the church, as the first ammendment says it must. If you go to the Wallbuilders website you will find many, many quotes from the Founding Fathers, Supreme Court decisions, etc. that prove this country was established on Judeo-Christian principles. Can a ship be steered by every star under the heavens? No, only if you want to go in circles! We live in a day where selectively every expression of Christianity is being driven from the public square. Do any of us actually believe our schools or our government can exist in a values vacuum? I guarantee you somebody's values will be taught!
The values being taught to our kids is that mom and dad don't know Jack
that freedom is what the "government feels like giving you"
that independent thinking, ideas are bad
That you only need to know what the government says you need to know
that the greater good is to be a subject not a freeman or freewoman
that religion is what the government says it is or is not
lastly that individuals who hold the Bible and their firearms close are a danger to the collective
Yea America what a great place we have allowed it to become
Where a veteran is seen as a terrorist but those who kill and abuse Americans are the freedom fighters of our day!
I have some hope for our future when I see young kids coming out with things like this. Both my son and daughter have "stood up" in class and spoken out against the "communist manifesto" principles and attempted "spoon-feeding" from the leftist, arrogant America-hating pinkos who try to "teach" them their baloney--in ELEMENTARY school, no less. I imagine THAT took a great deal of courage, so I still have hope.
Neither prayer not the pledge were taken out of schools. Children may not be led in saying them everyday but you can pray or say the pledge silently to yourself anywhere in the country.....well atleast till the thought machines and police take shape.
I'm familiar witht the Constitution, BOR, etc., and why those documents were written the way they were. My point is there is a difference between teaching values from a religious standpoint and teaching them from a moral standpoint. Religion is a means of imparting consequences to a value system. I don't believe anyone here wants the public school system instructing their children in either, that should be done at home. I also don't think any of you will seriously think that a good kid will proceed to ruination purely because the school didn't allow them to say a prayer out loud.
Gear,
I certainly understand your point and it is well taken. It is the primary duty of parents to raise their children, not the schools. I would think that the schools ought to reinforce the good values. Ultimately I think the question of morals and values comes down to that of authority. By what authority do we say such and such is wrong or right? Do we say something is right or wrong based on the will of the majority? Do we as individuals base it upon our spiritual beliefs? I do not want to get into the tall grass here, but I say there was a time in our schools when instruction was centered around the belief in the God of the Bible. If you have not seen the supporting documentation of this I invite you to go to www.wallbuilders.com and see the New England Primer. This primer was the major textbook for grammer school for decades back in the day. For every letter of the alphabet there was a Bible verse to help the student remember the letter. Our Founders thought the Bible should be central in the education of the youth. That was a time, I think, when more people believed what the Bible said. It is my prayer that revival breaks out in the land once more.
