That photo brought tears to my eyes and I wept out loud. It made me so sad just thinking about that pickle slices dying agony as it slowly drowned in pickle brine. It's dying glug glug was frozen on it's little greenish face :-(:-(

My grandmother would say that they shouldn't have used that pickle. Cucumbers with holes in them are too old to be used, they should always be firm and crisp. That's what she told me years ago whan I asked why she didn't put up really large pickles.
