i FINALLY found a Lyman 450 that i could afford. when i actually had cash in hand. it has been a long wait. almost two years! anyway, i downloaded a manual, and figured out most of the stuff. but one thing i do not understand is how you remove the boolit after it is sized and lubed. it looks like the 4500 has a rod that pushes it out. but the bullet depth adjuster is only that on mine. i guess you could push enough grease under it to push it out, but that would make a big mess. can someone give me a pointer on this? thanks.

There should be a "push out rod" (Lyman item number 2990306) that rides inside the adjuster screw, which pushes against sizing die's ejector rod.

i see the 4500 (newer version) has this feature. but in the parts list, it just shows a solid bullet depth adjuster. which is what mine has.

Don't know what to say, as both the 450 and 4500 illustrated parts breakdowns (Lyman booklet) show the same part (12) and the same part number (2990306).

450 and 4500 are near identical, and I believe that they ARE identical in that area.

Headed pin inside a hollow adjuster screw on the bottom, pushes on the ejector pin in
the sizing die. The bottom loop on the handle lifts the headed pin on the upstroke.

well, the "manual" i downloaded (got the link from this site) shows the 450 with a solid bullet depth adjuster. and mine is solid, i would have to chuck it in a lathe to get a good straight hole in it to install a push rod. this was one of the first things i noticed that was different between the two. i figured that i may have, or want to convert it to that style, because honestly, i can not see a way to remove the bullet after sizing/ lubing. it would seem like there would have to be a way. since it does show the 450 as a solid piece. i am assuming that it was on the early models, and it was updated to the new style. if you had to use pliers to dig the bullet out every time, i can see why! by the way, this one is not orange like most i have seen. this is a deep grey color. it actually looks nicer than the orange (to me anyway), and it hides grease and dirt better also.

I have a 45 and a 4500, and both of them utilize a push out rod that rides inside the adjuster rod. Call Lyman and order the two parts.

The 45, 450 & 4500 all operate the same way, two parts as described above.

Is it possible that the ejector rod has seized in the adjuster screw? I assume that it was used and not NIB. Possibly from dried up lube or maybe some rust? Can you post a picture?

Definitely need a picture. Something is wrong there.

Sounds to me like someone replaced the hollow adjuster tube with a bolt or chunk of threaded rod. How they expected to get the boolit out of the die probably didn't occur to them/him.

It's a 3-piece arrangement--a hollow threaded guide shaft that is a depth adjuster--a lock screw that bears against the shaft retainer's bottom end--and the round T-headed ejector pin that seats within the hollow guide shaft.

The adjustment screw is hollow with a plunger that comes up & pushes the boolit out the top .

Go to the Lyman website shown here and order part # 10 & #12. That should fix your problem!

http://www.lymanproducts.com/store/page151.html

Replace your existing part with the parts shown and start lubing!!!!! All will be well!

i really wish i could post a picture. there is something on my computer that is keeping me from doing so. i don't know if it is. something one of my kids downloaded, or spyware, or???:killingpc what is in there is a one piece rod, nothing seized, stuck, or froze up. it is something that was factory made, not made in someones garage. the only thing i can think of to do is order the parts that lyman shows. because there is no way this is going to work. thanks guys for all the advice, if i have more questions, which i probably will once i get the new parts, i will write another post.
