It would be nice to have a forum dedicated to ww2 weapons ie. tanks planes, small arms

You have to hand it to the WW=II pilots, a lot of times they were able to do some amazing flying and without the aid of computers aiding flight. Not taking anything away from todays pilots, but this was all seat of the pants and skill in my eyes.

He makes reference to only having his inboard guns left never the end. Did all 6 Brownings not fire at the same time or did the inboards have more ammo?

Chuck Yeager mentions in his book that the one factor that contributed most to his success as a combat pilot was his eyesight. He had 20-10 acuity in both eyes. He said he almost always saw the enemy before they saw him. He was also a P-51 driver.

The P-51B/C Mustangs were armed with four
fifty caliber machine guns. With 350rpg for the inboard guns,and 280rpg for the outboard guns that's 1260 rounds.


The P-51D had six .50 guns


6× 0.50 caliber (12.7mm) M2 Browning machine guns with 1,880 total rounds (400 rounds for each on the inner pair, and 270 rounds for each of the outer two pair)
