1st reintroduce to the gun. It's a 1965 Savage 110LH 30-06 w/a 1-8.5 twist (yes I know it didn't happen but I've measured several times an that's what it is) , the bore is 300 x309.

2nd the boolit it is mine, 200 gr full spire point w/.8 in of grip length and. 41 in of ogive nose. 09 flatpoint . Sized. 301 .2 wraps of "green bar" printer paper and finish sized to. 310. They are cast of 50/50 1-20 and WW and water dropped.

3rd my cases are weigh matched Remington cases fire formed and half neck sized then belled . My sizing ball gives me a neck ID of 307 which leaves a measurable shoulder on the neck these cases and loads are being worked up for the hunt not target work as such I will be in absolute bliss w/2" 100 yd groups.

4th patches are lubed by hand w/a Darr like lube of 14oz of vaseline, 18 oz of parifin, 3tblsp STP oil additive. The old school V-8 stuff. I need that much slickum to get them through the Lee sizer.

The groups are coming together well w/IMR4350 and CCI standard lg rifle primers w/a finished load that I expect to be between 45.3 and 45.7 gr w/o any filler.

The weather/water proofing test was an accident. My intent was to shoot cold ammo, the hunt is mid October north of Elk Nv if its warm I expect 40 or so for a high. As my luck goes of late I was delayed my ice melted and the ziplock leaked viola' drowned ammo. So it dried out in the cab for 3 days running from 60-160 degrees. Tonight 1 load turned in a group 6 in wide 4 in tall w/2 touching 2 an inch apart 3in lt and a rogue off another 3" and 3" low. Last time I was here w/jaxeted it was w/in a half gr of dialed in.

The patches are coming off and landing w/in 5ft of the muzzle cut mostly in long strips. No rings and if Lyman book data is of any value here and w/past chrony data I should be in the 22-2300 fps range .

So, you made the mold?

Its not any where near the kind of work most anyone w/ a lathe could do. The donor mould WAS a LEE 309-160 2r . Now it is plain based 200gr and pointy. The ROUGH mechanics and intent was to simply extend the nose to a more spire pointed shape. What I wound up w/was different from that goal, but actually fits the rifles in question better. I spent a great deal of time getting my drill press square and true to the mould and drilled a #30 pilot hole to an over all depth of 1.1 inches in hind sight I should have step drilled at least 4 steps like 30,22,14,7,1 and used my hand cut speed bore/butterfly to just finish the nose cut , next time I guess. Then I lapped it w/a tool wth the same dimensions and conture of the drill. That caused me to loose most of the lube grooves. When I size back to. 301 to patch I hit about a .1 behind the ogive leaving just visible grooves.

I guess the answer is no I didn't make the mould but I did "remodel" 1.

I have a 301-190 PP mould for the '06 if you're interested, I've been thinking about listing it.
