I cast some .475's yesterday from an LBT, it reminded me of why I like Verals stuff so much!

i was thinking of calling or emailing to get an opinion of a problem i have with the spru plate. there is nothing broken with it, and its a real nice mold. i had it made many years ago. im just haveing trouble with keeping the spru puddle over one cavity and not spilling over into the other. i have to pour real fast to get good bullets and it makes it real hard to not to get some alloy over in the other cavity. it kind of renders the thing into a single cavity mold. i end up with one bullet and one nose from each pour. i dont have this trouble with a conventional spru plate. other than this its a real nice mold. i bet its 15 or 20 years old. if the spru depresions were separated it would be perfect for me.-phil:castmine:

My experience with an LBT 4 cavity was that it needed to be cast hot. The plate design is such that a larger sprue mass helps keep heat in allowing better venting. If your spillover into the next cavity is freezing too soon I would increase temp or flow until it doesn't. Gianni.

I have 5 LBT's and I just cast hot, and hold the pour lever open and run the flow right from one to the next. I have never done it differently, so maybe thats why I havent noticed your problem. Doing it the way I do has always made great bullets out of these molds for me. I have never had any others cast as round, or drop as easy as his molds do. You pay for the quality, but in my limited experience, you certainly get what you pay for.

Dubber, I agree. I have three LBT molds here, and they all cast hot. I have a couple of Veral's rejects, and one he sent completed. The two rejects are slightly better than the run of the mill mold any way you cut it. His completed mold is the only perfect mold right out of the box and indeed is a pleasure beyond belief. Yes, you can define the meaning of round with this completed mold. Not only that, each cavity drops identical boolits. ... felix

LBT sprue plates are designed to let the alloy flow from one cavity to the other. I ladle cast and let the extra alloy flow off the front when the cavities are full. I'm pretty sure this is what Veral suggests and it works great.
