Easy question on when to apply bullet lub?

I started casting for my 45 70 with 530g bullets and black powder.
I hear guys will cast in winter for shooting, yet lube before it is time to shoot.

The lube is a local product.
I believe the standard beeswax/petrojelly similiar to spg.

Is month or 2 before shooting ok?

i go by how soft the lube is.
if it's super soft and sticky i lube just before loading.
if it will roll around on other boolits and not lose it's lube then i will lube ahead of time and keep them in a storage container.

I lube all of my boolits whitin a day or two of casting them. I use a harder lube "Carnauba Red" that requires a little heat in cool weather to run through my lube sizer.
As runfiverun said, if you are using a soft lube, it might be best to wait until just before loading.

I don't have a set answer to this.
I cast when I can, lube when I can, load when I can, and shoot when I can.

It depends on whether or not you plan to store bullets neatly lined up or jumbled together.

Try different things and see what works for ou.

I once bought some cast swc's at a gun show. I didn't use them for at least 15 years. The lube looked like the old NRA lube. It appeared shrunken and a little dried out, but I loaded them and shot them. To my surprise, all went well. So - I would have to say, at least in my experience, they can sit quite a while after being sized & lubed and still shoot OK. enjoy Mike
