The rifle is a Ruger Hawkeye in 358 Winchester and the boolet is the RCBS 35-200 with homemade lube. What does this lube star tell you about how my lube is performing?

Tells me that your lube is making the trip to the end of the barrel just fine.

Problem is when you're shooting those loads and DON'T see a lube star but instead see a gray powdery wash at the end of the crown.

What type of loads are you shooting in your .358 and what bullet are you using.

RCBS 35-200 air cooled WW with a starting load of surplus BLC2 in reformed LC 308 brass. The lube is a home brew lithibee variant.

So far I have been very pleased with the performance of both the rifle and this boolet.

PM headed your way.

You'll be hard pressed to fine a better shooting bullet in your 358 Win. than the RCBS-200.

yeah pretty much what i see when i look at my muzzle using the saeco #248 boolit and my moly complex [lithi] lube. [after adding atf]
the extra long star-lines tells me you have sealing to the muzzle.

We have a Star. :) . But how did it shoot?

And since we are on the subject of the .358 Win and Lube :). Would BAC be a good choice? As I have BAC in my sizer at this time. I also have some Felix Lube as well.

cliff:
the bac will work fine.
your temps there rarely get cold enough for the carnuba to be much of an issue.
the felix will easily pull it off too.

i have a few hundred saeco 248's loaded up with carnuba red lube waiting the warmer temps of next summer to do a direct comparison to my moly complex in the heat.
and i'll most likely be trying my neatsfoot oil modified E-yellow this winter looking at cold bbl results.

Yep it is pretty darn Hot here down South. I am in San Antonio but Hunt down South near Asherton Tx which is pretty close to the boarder of Mexico. Right now the temps are running into the 100F mark. And I hope that by the end of Oct we will be in the low to mid 80's lol. But during hunting season we might get a cold snap into the low 30's lol.
