This group buy is now closed!

MiHec 434215 GC Cramer HP

This is a run for the old Lyman 429215, and I will be the honcho. This will be a four cavity, brass, Cramer HP mold with GC and will drop .434". It is reputed to be very accurate at long ranges in the .44s and should be suitable for small to medium game. I expect it to be an excellent boolit for the .44 Special. The original (solid) design drops at 220 grs, so I guess it will drop 200-205 with a HP. As with all of Miha's HP designs, it should also be available with flat pins for casting solids.

The discussion thread for this is located here:

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=154193

For now assume that Miha will offer 1) large HP, 2) penta HP, 3) cup HP and 4) blank pin for flat nose. When we get near the number we need I will contact Miha to finalize pricing and details, but as the owner of several Miha molds I expect this to run $120 + $16 for each extra set of pins and $20 for shipping.

We will need 15 to commit to this buy, which we already had signed up on the discussion thread. Please list your forum name and your e-mail address in suitable form and the pin options you think you want along with the number of molds.

The drawing below was provided by 45 2.1, and it is a large, penta, and cup hollow point, as well as flat (solid).

The drawing you cropped has the small HP pin in it. The large and penta pins usually occupy the same space. I suggest you either add the small HP to the list and/or substitute a cup point in place of it and I will supply an updated drawing.

Thanks 45, do you have a preference? Large HP pins seem to be what people want on Miha molds so maybe an updated drawing would be best.

I would drop the small HP and add a cup point myself. This is a lighter for caliber boolit and would disintegrate under rifle velocities.

Hi Crash87,

Sorry for the confusion. Looking at both pictures that 45 2.1 has provided, I believe what he has drawn is a small HP and a cup HP. He indicated that the large HP would not do well at rifle velocities. I don't know if the penta HP will be compatible with small HP. I also don't know if a large HP would be good for .44 Special handgun. So I think cup and small HP for sure, don't know yet about large or penta.

No.... the large, penta and cup HPs as well blank pin options are on that drawing. The solid non HP is viable also. The cup point would work well in rifles as well as the solid.

Yes, but unless I have misunderstood (and someone with more experience can correct me) some people prefer dedicated flat pins so that they can still rest the mold without having the HP pins sticking out the bottom.

Is switching this buy to NOE feasible? Everyone is so enamored (justifiably so) with Miha's molds that sometimes we forget that we have another capable mold maker available.

I'm not necessarily advocating switching, but maybe we should discuss the possibility and what concessions would have to be made.

I was thinking the same thing. While the mold in this group buy can be obtained with HP pins, or as a solid, my own personal interest is in a solid version like the RCBS 429215 but a bit better. It seems as though this mold maker is taking on a large share of the group-buy business, and his delivery times will only get longer and longer.

You guys are welcome to start up your own NOE buy. I am here for a Miha mold. I suspect most of the people here are going to wait the wait as well.

I would prefer a Miha mold as well, but with several GB's generating many more sign-up's than this one, I suspect that my heirs will have to take delivery of this one. I don't blame Miha for giving preference to those that can spread his development time over many molds rather than a few. He has to eat too.

I'll probably hang on but will put my anticipation on hold. I hope when it comes up for payment, that I am still able to read my emails and still have a Paypal account.

Guys, I'm on a few NOE group buys and they don't seem to arrive any more frequently than the Miha molds I'm waiting for. Since we already have this group buy well underway, I'm not going to switch at this point. If someone wants to start a new group buy with NOE, that's fine with me. Heck, maybe I'd sign up for both.

I'm going to stick with this GB as well. I'm signed up for a couple of others that have been going gang busters on sign-ups.Those should keep me busy until this one finally percolates to the top of the list.

And you don't need a group buy or anything - check him out.

I believe that you can do that yourself.

Take a look at 45 2.1's instructions in post #187 and see if they work for you.

No, he just told me to close the buy two weeks ago, so I think it usually takes a month or two to order the tooling, fabricate the molds, and send out payment requests. That's just my guess based on past, non-honcho experience with 6 or 8 of his molds.
