Hi all.

I have now fitted a new fore end to the Pygmy, bedded it and pressure pointed the barrel. Also I have removed the hideous scope mounts and fitted a spare Parker Hale PH5A target sight I had knocking around along with a bead front sight.

Today I shot it with my CBE 314 220 GC bullet in WW + 2% babbit, 9.8 BHN, 219gr. The target that follows was at 55 yards/50 metres and the load was 22gr of W748.

The next photo is the comparison of the original (lower) fore end and the replacement.

Much prettier me thinks.

The next shot is the dinky little feed ramp the builder of the rifle put into the action when 'blinded' off the magazine well. It is spring loaded and the spring tension is enough to guide a loaded round up into the chamber however when the bolt moves forward the guide depresses out of the way.

More reports later once I try some more loads over the chronograph.

Jeff,

Can you give any specifics on the cartridge? It looks like a shortened 303, but how short?

Good looking outfit. That shortened 303 looks like an ideal c/b ctg.

Strawhat: Case is 1.5 inches long exactly.

Jeff,
That little critter looks like it could be a cousin of the .30 Herret, with just a tad more neck, which it needs. It should work very well but I think that 220 gr. might be a bit unstable after it gets out there a ways. Could be wrong, it's happened before, I did get married once  .

Jeff can you do me a big favour and send me a case or two.My smith can make the die set and reamer easier that way. Pat

..........JeffinNZ, that's a very cute cartridge. Like a 7.62x39 rimmed? It should be a fun and rewarding project. I think a couple similar ones were developed here for cast benchrest shooting. One based on the 308 and the other on the 30-30 with both being shortened to 1.5".

What's the screw on the back of the trigger guard for? Pat

Jeff, that would make a really nice cartridge for a single shot rifle. Martini or a hi wall. What twist bbl are you using. 1x10 or 1x12?. You should just make up a aluminum tray yhat fits in the mag that just holds one ctg at a time sort of like the ones some target shooters use. There are commercial ones on the market but the brand name escapes me at the moment. Maybe up the boolit weight to 250grs for some serious thump. Now you'll have guys out running around for old #1MKIII's for platforms to make up their own pigmy's on. Frank

PAT: the screw is for preventing over travel in the trigger.

FRANK: the barrel is a bog standard 2 groove No.4 barrel so will be 1 in 10. The rifle is a real "bitsa". Bits a MLE, bitsa SMLE, bitsa No.4, front sight is off a Remington I think. Let's call it a 'hybird'. [smilie=1:

ALL: thanks for the nice comments. I will measure up and case and provide full dims tomorrow. Can anyone out there do a drawing??

Can anyone out there do a drawing??

I can in RCBS Load, it's a bit basic but there may be someone else who can come up with a better drawing.

If I have the Dim. I could do it for all.

John.

Rim thickness: 0.060 (Norma brass)

Ctg case OAL:1.500
Neck length: 0.435
Shoulder dia: 0.430

G'day everybody,
I've just come back from a short trip, spent some time with a close mate and his wife in Adelaide. I had to go to pick up my newest rifle; a Martini Cadet in .38/.357, so I stayed and spent sometime knife sheath making, gun repairs and just "shootin' the breeze".

Now that I'm back I have some work to catch up with and I will get to putting these measurements into the Cartridge designer section of RCBS LOAD.

Post them as soon as,

John.

This time of the year is so busy for me, I have had little time to do much of anything else. I have drawn up a likeness of the cartridge in RCBS LOAD Cartridge Designer now lets see if I can place it here.

Jeff, you listed no OAL for the cartridge, not that it matters IMO as most casters who make one up would have their own favourite boolit.
