The news is reporting that Neil Armstrong has died of complications following heart surgery. In case you do not recgonise the name, he was the first man on the moon.

Remember that day well. Was cooking at a resturant located on a 4 lane highway. Walked into the middle of the highway and no vehicles were to be seen. All eyes were glued to the televisions that evening.

Rest in peace Neil Armstrong,

Slim

Was a teenager at home glued to the TV set. Never forget that moment. Sorry to see such a good and humble man go home, but he's happier now.

Apollo 11 was and is validation that America is the greatest nation on Earth. The crowning achievement of 2 centuries of freedom. Neil Armstrong was a brave and skilled pilot, god speed.

A time & date that was forever locked in my memory anyway, even with todays memory loss. [smilie=l:

Pulled over & listened on the car radio, fascinated, then rushed home to watch TV news.

I cant see any future accomplishment in space will ever compare with mans first landing outside our planet. :cbpour:

Yep saw it happen here too. An event forever etched in my memory. He was a true American hero. He didn't exploit it for money the way so many do today when they get a little taste of fame. He will be missed but I agree, he is in a better place. I imagine he has already explored the back side of the moon and maybe some other planets. Blessings to his family.

I had a small black and white TV that I took to work that night. I put it up on top of the coke machine. I pumped gas at a 24 hour Clark station then. People that came in for gas ended up staying when the landing was near. Must have been fifty cars on that lot.

How sad. We lost a hero today. Someone the whole world looked up to (literally in 1969)... There will never be another first like his. First man on Mars will be incredible, but this was the first human being to set foot anywhere other than on Earth. Amazing!

Our Mars Lander needs to be named after him!

He was one of several people who inspired me to seek a career in science, later in engineering.

He really did take one giant step for mankind. May he never be forgotten.

RIP Neil. You changed the world.

Skilled, brave and humble. I watched it, too, a few weeks before going off to college.

Sad to know he is gone.

LOL! Even if you had been well off enough to have a color TV in those
days (we weren't) - it was a B&W camera, color cameras small enough to send
to space didn't exist then. Now they are smaller than a lipstick.

I've had an Apollo 11 patch since the year he went to the moon. My wife framed it with an American flag a few years ago and it sits proudly on a shelf in the living room.

I always liked him.
