Just checkin in as a new member. I've been snooping around the site for a few weeks. I smelted down 185lbs of COWW last week and cast my very first boolits; 429421's of course, 3 days ago. Ole Elmer would be proud! This site and Mr Fryxell's e-book have been very helpful.

Thank you!

Was wondering the same as Jim, 'hides'. Do you folks still have the beaver problems down there? I knew of a few guys from up this way that went down there to help out with that problem a few years ago. Haven't heard much about it lately tho.
This is a really great site here, lot's of very valuable information, good people too. Welcome Ark. Trapper

I mostly just trap nuisance coyotes and coons close to home with my 9 year old boy anymore. We don't make any money on em but we have a big time! I used to put a pretty good dent in the beaver and coon population every year but fuel has got so high and fur prices so low it's hard to justify running a 60 mile line. We don't have as bad a problem with beaver as we used to. A big part of that is due to several guys from up north taking 3 week vacations and coming down here and setting 200-300 conibears in every puddle and ditch they can find as soon as season opens so they can collect on the bounty money even tho the pelts are still blue that early. It's kind of a sore subject among local trappers in these parts! I don't worry about it anymore cause I just do it for fun and to teach my boy.

Welcome Ark.! I too trap. Here in Eastern VA I grew up and even now at 62 trap Muskrats in the big tidal marshes in the rivers. I live almost on the Rappahannock River and bout 15 miles from the Potomac River. Lots of creeks and streams here too. Got Beaver, rats, coon, red and grey fox, mink, otter, possum, and now even some yotes and bobcats. I have probably all told 30 doz. traps of mixed types. Course it's 110 and 160s for rats and 220s for coon and 280 and 330 for otter and beaver. Have a plenty of 1.5 and 2s and 3s and some CDR and MB types too. Mostly I cast for ML. Most of the hunting here is shotgun. I am pretty addicted to scrounging lead. I use it for "boolits" and on my commercial fishing nets too. Again Welcome! I think you'll like the site. I usually visit daily but when away fishing or on a hunting trip not so much. OH yeah, I'm retired so there is lots of fishing, hunting trips to do. Best, 10 ga
