Anyone have any good full power lever action loads for 45-70 with a 405gn GC bullet (rcbs). I have h322, 3031, varget, 5744, 4831sc and am open to other powders.

Thanks

You might have better luck at the Marlin Forum. They have a special section on 45-70 for lever actions. My reloading is for a Browning 1885 and my loads would be too hot for a lever action.

with H322 start at 43gr, dont know about the others. Using H4198 I shot that bullet with 44gr and that will leave snot on the buttsctock. Gas checked and lubed bullet is 438gr with my alloy. As always work up your loads dont go to the max.

I use 57 gr of W748 under a RCBS 405 GC or a Rem 405 Jbullet, either one gives
about 1.0-1.5" groups at 100 yds if I do my part, they run about 1750 fps and this is
reported by Rifle mag to be a Trapdoor pressure level load. I presume due to the slow
burning powder. Not max pressure at all. I took that boolit up to over 2000 fps but
the recoil was no fun. At 1750 it is stout but managable. Killed a wildebeeste with
one shot, same with a zebra.

I used 46 gr of H322 with a 420 gr plain base for a couple of bear hunts. It went around 1650 to 1700.
