I don't know where this belongs so I put it here. Gunstocks are a lot like women. The stocks are smooth and curvey, and like women gunstocks can have thier flaws, knots and chips, over runs and poor finishing. Also balance and good trim are desireable in both. However, I don't find cracks attractive in gun stocks.

And some just need to have oil rubbed all over them...

There are few things more satisfying that a properly bedded stock.

Hold them incorrectly and you're liable to get kicked in the face,,,,

Have more than one and lock them all up in a safe when you are tired of them, wait never mind...

Then there are those that you decided not to buy, only to see them much later and the recoil pad needs some serious trimming:shock:.

When some are roughly handled, they get more wiskers than I like.

The nicely figured and polished ones are no more functional than the average plain looking ones ,I'll take function over eye appeal any day.As long as it fits you right and it's comfortable to lay your cheek up aginst that's all that matters

The ones made out of plastic are plain ugly no matter the shape.

It deserves to be restated. Its more important that they feel right, fit you well, and carry like a part of you than look pretty.

Treating them right doesn't garentee a life time, but it often helps. When the heart is bad no amount of refinishing, polishing or bedding will make it right no matter how much you love it.

1 comes to mind that should have been burned rather than sent on its way and another that I just couldn't make work but seems to be working out very well with the new bbl'd action and beholder.

When you pick either one for clean neat lines based on eye appeal---the gun stock is likely to be the most functional!

I like my gun stocks a little on the trashy side.

Long barrels on a gun are as delightful as long legs on a woman.

I am such a sucker for long barrels. That's why I try to go to the gunshops only once a year or so as the last time I entered one looking for an Chinese SKS I walked out with my current squeeze, an H&R Buffalo Classic in .45-70. I saw her from a distance, her long luscious barrel putting all others in the rack to shame. I walked up to her and introduced myself and as I lifted her into my arms, she made my nose flair. I love that rifle.

This has just got to be the cleverest, wittiest and most original thread of all. It should be made a sticky!:drinks:

Actually, there's quite a bit of subtle truth in it.
