My Dad got involved in Scouting during the war and stayed with it until I joined when I was a kid. Moma Gave me this clipping of a newspaper article about Dad being chosen as the Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 33 to go to the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, PN in 1950.

When Dad died in 1993, Troop 33 volunteered to disband and reorganize as another troop. They wanted that number to be listed in the boy Scouts Hall of Fame.

Being an Eagle Scout is a great feat, I made it in 1961, and you should be very proud of the fact that he gave so much to help the kids.

Not only did he make Eagle, Dad went on to make Order of the Arrow. I have his neckerchief and slide at the house.

I was not a boy scout, but have up most respect for the program. My grandson and son are heavily involved in the program. I couldn't be more proud. They are both in the Order of the Arrow and grandson is 14 yrs old and closing in on the Eagle. He is going to work the summer camp next year as a staff counselor. That being said Jim you have every right to be proud of your dad. You are from very good stock I can tell.

No mention of his little boy 'Jimmy'.

Fantastic you have that. My mum (mom) produced a photo of my late father walking down the main street of the old home town in the 1950's it must have been. Snapped by the press photographer. The worrying thing is at a glance it could be ME! That was certainly suggested by other people who have seen it. A chip off the old block.

As others have already stated, this is certainly another reason to be proud of your father. I was not in scouts as a kid, but my son currently is. He is 13 years old, and is at the rank of Star scout. I picked him up this morning from returning from his Order of the Arrow ordeal.

Thanks for sharing that with us.
