I was out in my barn mow storing lumber yesterday when it occurred to me that the unused portion of the mow, about 20x40 feet, could be walled in, roofed and wired and would make a dandy wood shop. Then of course I'd have no excuse not to take up boat building, morphic resonance demanding I follow in my ancestors footprints you see.

Why do I do this to myself......

Few things are as pretty as a well crafted boat and with all that time on your hands.....Gianni

You're right of course. Think of how fast I could get the boats done with a 3 and 5 year old helping........

Bret, how big is a cubit? And, a weighted keel should be no problem, eh?

Bret I'm not sure how old you are but do it now cuz it doesn't get any better as you get older. There was a time during my busy season that I would start at 7:00 and quit at midnite and then do it again the next day. Now after 12 hours I'm done, no use even trying because everything just turns to crap. I used to run a small business, run cattle on the farm along with the usual chores and still have plenty of time to hunt and shoot. Now all I do is fool with the business and it seems like I never have time for those pursuits.

A boat shop in the TOP of the barn???................ Might work for ONE anyway.....

I guess it would depend on how wide the ladder or stairway is.........

Wait for the next flood or if gobal warming is really going to effect the sea levels....

All jokes aside; GO for it.

I would recommend a strip planked canoe. The 3 &5 year olds can help you sand the hull.

Strip canoes are a good project. Here is a 32 footer we built.

It's a bank barn. IOW- the barn is built into the side of a small hill and there is a backfilled drive into the mow/2nd floor. 16' wide by 12' high double doors into the mow. BIG BOAT? NO PROBLEM!!!

BTW- If Lake Ontario rises enough for me to flood (about 150') then I will gladly kiss Al Gores backside. As long as he lets me in his Ark that is.

Sounds like a great setup. How can you go wrong????

Even if you don't build boats, it would be a great shop for anything, including a hideout for when the Munchkins get loud after a night shift, and you need a nap.8-)
