Have shot Trailboss in .222...223...308..30-06..338...416..444..45/70 and loads were started
at about 50% and in most instances went to about 68 % case capacity when accuracy and velocity peaked...This powder may even work well in the larger capacity cases for those that shoot the bigger boomers..

Those are some impressive groups !! Thanx for all your hard work loading shooting and testing TB powder. I would not have thought of TB as a rifle powder, expecially in the bigger cases. I am curious to know why you work up .5 grains at a time instead of .2 or .3. Is it because you already know that jumping .5 at a time will be OK or would it just be too time consuming to jump .2 at a time. When I test my pistol loads, I'll only advance .2 grains at a time and continually check the cases for any prssure signs (hard extraction, pushed out or flattened primers, etc). In pistol cases, there is less leeway when it comes to load volume because of the smaller cases.

Plus or minus 0.2 grains does not do much with big stick powder. Ball powder, yeah, you can get that close consistently between throws. However, it is best to find a load where something like plus or minus 0.2 does not change POI. ... felix

After haveing mounted a new to me, 3x9 vintage Scopechief on the Sako to replace the 4x12 Simmons that finally wore out and wouldn't focus beyond 6 x for the past year it was time to try my best Trail Boss load at 100 yards.

***None of these loads exist in any loading manual******

.416 365 gr RCBS GC unsized and Teflon Taped WC WWts.
WW unsized cases with slight Lee crimp applied

The rifle was sighted in for 50 yards at about 2 inch High and then shot at 100yds.

21.0 grains Trail Boss....1245...1236...1230..1241...1237 fps
3 shots cloverleafed at 0.60 inch group and the other 2 shots were .85 inch higher and left of the cloverleaf. 1.30 inch center to center for the 5 shots.

Put up two Playing Cards at 100 yds and shot two sets of only three shot groups...both gave me two shots at 0.70 inch and 0.75 inch and third shot on each made it 1.00 and 1.15 inch.

Next up was with the same components..and A2400 powder with a cotton filler..

35.0 Gr. A2400....1728..1734..1719..1722..1730 fps

5 shots/100yds/ 1.80 inch

With a differance of about 500 fps between the two loads I found that both loads had almost the same zero ..... with the A2400 load on avg. a 1.50 inch higher impact.

Hunting Season here starts in about a month and looking forward to trying both loads on our deer and black bear....
