Thank you for your service.
Although I disagree with much that is happening in this country, and a lot of things we have done recently, it pleases me to see other people willing to serve something besides themselves. I am proud for all the volunteer forces.

What year was the photo taken?

I retired w/ 20 yrs in Sept of "95

The guy pinning the award on to you looks like Captain Binghamton from McHale's Navy.

Considering the length of those sideburns in that photo, I would hazard a guess of mid-70s :)

It took me 9 years to make my 7 in the Marines. Shortly after that I went to the dark side though ;) Lost my hash marks because of it. Congrats on making Chief before your Crow Stripes went Gold as well. I finally got my scrambled eggs a couple of years ago so its nice to have some gold back on the uniform.

I always did think my dress khakis were a lot better looking than either my blues or whites.

Good Job there Chief.

Back then we know you didn’t do it for the great pay.

Many Military men don’t like former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. However he was one of the McNamara Whiz Kids that in the end pushed for an all volunteer military so us tax payers would have to pay a demanded wage. Only thing I can recall the Whiz Kids doing right.

My stepson in the USMC. With five strips he makes well over twice what I do in a machine shop. Plus a possible pension. Now if we can just cut out the dead wood in managerial ABC government we could do even better for people who actually contribute to our nation.

Good to see some fellow CPO's here!
As for pay a CPO today makes more then that CDR. (O-5) pinning my ribbon on.
But I loved the Navy would not change that for anything, I stated out as a AMS but at E-4 switched to ADJ.
In Feb of 72 I was offered CWO-1 and for some dumb reason turned it down, hind site being 20-20 big mistake on my part.

Wrong branch of the service, but with the glasses, could also pass for Sgt Bilko
