Team.

Is there such a thing as a center drill with a longer than usual minor section?

I want to HP my 6.5 boolits and my little center drill only allows for a .10 deep hole. Ideally I would like double that.

Maybe I have to grind a standard drill to suit.

Just grind your center drill to suit, the point is already nicely centered and back-cut.

Use the center drill and then use a standard drill bit to deepen the part you want deeper.

Or, go deeper and cut a conical HP with the center drill. Better reliability opening, not so much shearing off (not so deep).

Use the center drill and then use a standard drill bit to deepen the part you want deeper.

Big +1

Making the narrow part of the center drill longer will defeat the intended purpose of the way they are designed.
The shafts are thick to aid in keeping them from wandering off of center like a small drill of the same size will often do especially on a non flat surface.

try using a spotting drill. If your using a center drill, and not using the "center part" its basically what your using anyway.

years ago they made kits to hp fmj bullets. it worked most of the time but some times the bullet point would open up and the core would shoot out leaving the jacket stuck in the bore. i saw then for .30 and .45 auto cal.
