Is there a place in rifle loads for mag primers. Specifically 308win. I have several thousand left over when I used to load for 7.62x54r using j-words.

I am using light loads of 2400 and 5744 in my 308.

Are they going to cause a problem? Or should I trade them off?

i have only tried them one time with cast loads and a ball powder.
things worked well untill i hit higher temperatures.
granted i was exceeding jaxketed velocity's to begin with, and it was the powder that was temp sensitive.
i would try something like 16 grs 2400 to start and work from there.

I have used many magnum rifle primers in 30-06-308-303 Brit etc... it with cast bullets with all speeds and types of powder with no detriment to accuracy seen.I also shoot large pistol primers with 2400 and Trail Boss in the 7.62 x 54 with great luck.I pretty much grab whatever i have on the bench and use it.

Harry, Am interested in your comment on LP primers in 7.62x54. Was this for accuracy, and if so, what were your results?

lp primers work well in rifle applications.
i found i needed to add a bit more powder over using rifle primers to equal velocity.
sometimes the lp is more accurate than lr sometimes not.
i will use/try them if pressures are under about 40ish-k in pressure.

this is how they shoot typically in a Russian 91-30 and 6x scope.the Win brass has shallow pockets has rather than cut them i just went to pistol primers.

I also use the Fed and Win pistol primers in the 30-06 with 16-17g of 2400.
